The phrase 'use your head or lose your head' was directly stenciled onto the wall in German at a fort housing German prisoners of War during World War II; This fort later became the art compound of Donald Judd, who supposedly added his signature to the stencil. Here, the text is reappropriated yet again, by silk-screening an intentionally mistranslated version of the directive onto a white silk scarf. The scarf is alsosigned but the signature is indeterminate, stylistically reminiescent of Judd's signature but at closer inspection clearly this artist's.
The scarves are on display at Printed Matter and were originally made for a fundraiser for the Marfa Public Library.
